FLORAL SKETCHBOOK PLAYTIME Part 7

The Floral Sketchbook designs can be used to create backgrounds, borders and even bouquets.

Examples

Making a simple background in CAP2: Create a coloured square. Import the lily sketch, copy, paste and resize. Place over the background, rotating the designs until you have a pattern you like. Group together and crop to the edges of the square.

The 'bouquet' was created in CAP2, printed on to inkjet watercolour paper and then coloured with Radiant Rain Shimmering Mists.

A card made using the lily sketch. The lily was coloured with Shimmering Mists and Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls. The flower centre was embellished with black Liquid Pearls.

FLORAL SKETCHBOOK PLAYTIME Part 6

If you are using a graphics programme such as CAP2 or MCS there will be a way of turning the
Floral Sketches to a sepia colour. These can be used as they are, to create greeting's cards or in scrapbook pages or could be tinted with very dilute Radiant Rain Shimmering Mists or watercolour paint.

Examples

FLORAL SKETCHBOOK PLAYTIME Part 2

Today we'll look at another way of colouring the Floral Sketches...this is for the hybrid crafters among you.

the Radiant Rain Shimmering Mists and Perfect Pearls give stunning results. Both are mica based sprays but the Radiant Rains have a dye instead of a colourless fluid like the Perfect Pearls.

I have found that inkjet watercolour paper is nice to print on...it can be moistened and behaves like artist's watercolour paper. I believe you can print on to blotting paper which gives nice blending effects bit I've not tried it yet.

So I printed some of the Floral Sketches on to inkjet watercolour paper and cut the designs out. There is a grey outline round the flower...cut inside this line...it is there to mark the flower edge on the lighter areas.

Spray with water and then spray or brush the Shimmering Mists on to the flower (spray a bit in an ice cube tray to act as palette then you can mix the colours if you wish).

Dry the flowers with a heat gun or place on a radiator. You may need to flatten them under somthing heavy if they warp too much.

Examples

Centre brushed with Shimmering Mist, the the whole lily sprayed with Perfect Pearls (the white mica one).

NEW LILY DUET

Samples made with the new Lily Duet stamps.
Each of the Floral Duets has an open design and a solid design.

Here the solid lily design has been embossed with Stampendous Aged Wine embossing powder.
The 'veins' have been coloured with a lilac pen. The centre is one of the new Liquid Pearl colours and a small pearl.

The open lily design was stamped on to blotting paper, cut out and then coloured with Radiant Rain Shimmering Mists applied with a paintbrush. The flower sprayed with water before colouring.

The was stamped and embossed with Stampendous Aged Ochre powder, cut out and again coloured with Shimmering Mists applied with a brush. Galaxy Gold Brilliance ink was then brushed on to the petals (not very clear in photo)

This time a piec of blotting paper was sprayed with Shimmering Mists and Perfect Pearl inks. WHen the paper had dried the open lily design was embossed with Aged Wine powder. A touch of yellow was brushed into the centre of the lily and then Liquid Pearls and a pearl were added.

This is a cover page for a book or an Art Journal page.
An 8 ins. x 8 ins. piece of blotting paper was sprayed with water and then various Shimmering Mist colours.
It was then sprayed with Perfect Pearls mist to 'tone' it down.
When the paper had dried, the solid lily was stamped around the edge with Pearlescent Lavender Brilliance ink. The open lily was stamped and embossed with Aged Wine powder and then coloured carefully with one of the Mists.
Shabby White embossing powder (Stampendous) was then sprinkled in patches over the page and heated to emboss (heat from underneath the paper).
The edge of the paper was torn (with blotting paper the torn edge is coloured) and mounted on to card.
Lasly the centres of the lilies were embellished with Liquid Pearls.

LUMINARTE, MOUNTBOARD CUT-OUTS AND ME

Spraying the Luminarte Radiant Rain and Perfect Pearl Mists on to the Decor Plates or the Mountboard Cut-Outs is very different to spraying on to blotting paper.
The surface is not absorbent at all, so the sprays pool and create more of a marbled effect.
Below are some Mountboard Cut-Outs sprayed with some of the above ink sprays. The Cut-Outs were dried using a heat gun to speed the process. They were then stamped with some of my new Floral Duet stamp designs. The butterflies and dragonflies were stamped on to inked blotting paper and cut out.

This tag has been inked in the same way, stamped and a flower torn from stamped blotting paper. The fern is from Prima, sprayed with the Luminarte Radiant Rains. Liquid Pearls for the cosmos centre.

Blotting Paper, Luminarte and me Part 2

Once coloured and dried, the blotting paper can be textured using embossing folders and the Cuttlebug (or similar). I have a lot of Texture Mats so I wondered if they could be used to give texture too.
I placed the wet, coloured blotting paper face down on to the Quilt Texture Mat, and pressed the paper into it. It took a while but the result was great...it would be nice on a card for a new baby.

Blotting Paper, Luminarte and me

There are so many of these spray inks...plain, pearly etc., and it's amazing the different effects you get on different papers and card, but I've never been very happy with the finished product.
I wanted a more blended look and decided to try blotting paper, Luminarte Radiant Rain and Perfect Pearl Mists...with pleasing results.
Because it's so absorbent lots of water can be sprayed to blend the colours with out the ink rolling off the paper.  I have a large piece of blotting paper underneath the sample one and I also spray it with water before the inks to flatten the paper.
The blotting paper has a fabric feel to it as well.

These samples feature the sprays and my new Cape Daisies Duet stamps.

The above samples have been made as follows:
1. The dry blotting paer was embossed with the open Cape Daisies stamp and clear powder.
2. The paper was sprayed with water.
3. Pink Grapefruit Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist was sprayed over the paper along with water
and then dried over a radiator (which is surprisingly quick).
4. The single Cape Daisy Duet stamp (the solid one) was embossed with clear powder.
5. Pewter Shimmering Mist was sprayed in patches over the paper along with water.
6. Perfect Pearl Mist (white pearl) was then sprayed to give extra sparkle and the paper dried.
7. A bit of Wine and Roses colour concentrate (Luminarte...I've been putting mine into spray bottles) was
dabbed with a stencil brush in the flower centres.

I have some of the Luminarte and Perfect Pearl Mists in stock, please e mail me for details.
